Is a 1.1 GPA good?

No. A 1.1 is well below average: D work, 65–66%, against a national average of 3.11 for 2019 graduates (NAEP High School Transcript Study). It is under the 2.0 that many colleges set as a minimum, so raising it is the priority. Every class feeds the same average, which is what a grade point average is: points earned divided by credits taken.

In high school

Most four-year colleges will not admit a student below 2.0. Use the time you have left in high school to raise it; community colleges are open-admission and a common route to a four-year degree.

In college

In college a GPA below 2.0 usually means academic probation, which can affect financial aid. Talk to an academic advisor about a plan.

Do colleges still accept a 1.1 GPA?

A few do, though it’s far from typical. The latest national study, of the class of 2019, found an average of 3.11, so a 1.1 trails by 2.01. A few colleges still enroll students this low; Yeshiva University counted 2% of its 2023–24 freshmen with a 1.00–1.99.

What letter grade and percentage is a 1.1 GPA?

Closest letter: D. In percent, 65–66%. Picture six same-credit courses, two D+’s and four D’s; their mean is exactly 1.1.

How fast can I raise a 1.1 GPA to a 2.0?

Picture a freshman year of eight classes at 1.1. Getting to 2.0 then takes four straight A’s, or eight B’s, which is a second full year.

Will a 1.1 GPA put me on academic probation?

Expect it. The University of Maryland puts students on probation once their cumulative GPA drops under 2.0, and Florida may do the same. A 1.1 over 30 credits leaves you 27 quality points short; 14 credits of A’s would close the gap.

Can you graduate from college with a 1.1 GPA?

No. Florida and Arizona State both set 2.0 as the minimum cumulative GPA for an undergraduate degree. Halfway through (60 credits), a 1.1 needs 27 credits of A’s to get there, nearly a full year of them.
