How to use the Marquette GPA calculator
Enter your previous Marquette GPA and the GPA-bearing semester hours behind it if you want to start from an existing cumulative record. Then add completed Marquette courses with their semester hours and final grades. You can also add planned courses to estimate a projected GPA or use the target tool to estimate the average needed over future credits.
Important: This calculator is for the current standard undergraduate grading system. Graduate, Law, Dentistry, Health Science Professional, and historical records can follow different rules.
Marquette GPA scale
Marquette uses a 4.000 grading system for the current undergraduate record.
| Grade | Grade points |
|---|---|
| A | 4.00 |
| A- | 3.67 |
| B+ | 3.33 |
| B | 3.00 |
| B- | 2.67 |
| C+ | 2.33 |
| C | 2.00 |
| C- | 1.67 |
| D+ | 1.33 |
| D | 1.00 |
| F | 0.00 |
| WF | 0.00 |
A WF is calculated into GPA like an F. That makes it different from withdrawal marks such as W or WA, which do not have grade-point values.
Which Marquette grades count in GPA?
Grades A through F and WF carry grade points in the current undergraduate system. Other marks such as CR, NC, S, PS, PD, I, IC, IE, W, WA, UW, ADW and audit marks do not have grade-point values and should not be converted into invented points.
Temporary grades such as I, IC, IE and NG should be replaced with the final posted grade when the record is resolved.
How Marquette calculates GPA
For each GPA-bearing course, multiply the grade-point value by the semester hours. Add those course grade points and divide by the total semester hours for courses with assigned grade points.
Example: A 3-credit A earns 12.00 grade points. A 3-credit B+ earns 9.99. Together, 21.99 grade points divided by 6 semester hours gives a 3.665 GPA.
Marquette states that the official GPA in its student information system is not rounded up or down. Treat the calculator result as a planning estimate and use CheckMarq for your official GPA.
Repeated courses at Marquette
Calculator limitation: Do not use a simple “new grade replaces old grade” assumption for Marquette undergraduate repeats.
For ordinary eligible undergraduate repeats, Marquette includes the highest grade in the cumulative GPA and excludes the lowest grade. The policy also has limits for repeating passing courses, rules for failed or noncredit attempts, categories that can be repeated without the ordinary limit, and special treatment for withdrawal grades and transferred courses.
Because a lower repeat grade should not automatically replace a higher original grade, the calculator’s Repeat Impact estimator is disabled. Confirm the counted attempt in CheckMarq or with the Registrar, then enter only the GPA-bearing attempt when building a manual estimate.
Do transfer grades count in Marquette GPA?
No. Marquette’s GPA policy excludes credits transferred from another university from the GPA calculation. Transfer credit may still apply toward degree requirements, but that is separate from whether the external grade enters your Marquette GPA.
If you repeat a transferred course at Marquette, check the undergraduate repeat policy because the Marquette attempt and retained transfer credit can interact differently depending on the result.
GPA requirements for Marquette undergraduates
A Marquette undergraduate degree generally requires at least a 2.000 cumulative GPA. The university also requires at least a 2.000 GPA in coursework applicable to each declared major and minor, although individual programs may set higher requirements.
Academic standing and financial-aid eligibility are related but separate. Marquette’s undergraduate academic censure policy expects students to maintain a 2.000 cumulative GPA. Financial-aid SAP uses additional rules, including GPA thresholds based on attempted credits plus pace requirements.
| Financial-aid SAP stage | Cumulative GPA standard |
|---|---|
| 1–24 attempted credits | 1.500 |
| 24+ attempted credits | 2.000 |
| After two years of attendance or junior standing, whichever comes first | 2.000 |
Do not use the calculator alone to determine aid eligibility, academic censure, graduation clearance, or a program-specific requirement.
Graduate and professional students
Marquette’s graduate and professional careers should not automatically use this undergraduate profile. Graduate grading and repeat rules differ; for example, graduate repeats can keep both grades in the cumulative GPA, unlike the standard undergraduate highest-grade treatment. Law, Dentistry and other professional programs also have distinct grading details.
Marquette GPA calculator FAQs
Does Marquette use a 4.0 GPA scale?
Yes. The current standard undergraduate grading system uses a 4.000 scale, with A worth 4.00 points and F/WF worth 0.00.
Does a WF affect GPA at Marquette?
Yes. Under the current undergraduate grading policy, WF is calculated into GPA like F at 0.00 grade points.
Do transfer grades affect Marquette GPA?
No. Transfer credits can be accepted toward a Marquette degree, but transferred grades are not included in the Marquette GPA calculation.
Does Marquette replace a repeated course grade?
For ordinary eligible undergraduate repeats, the highest grade is included in cumulative GPA and the lowest is excluded. Because the rule is not simply “the newest grade replaces the old one,” repeat cases should be checked against the official policy and your record.
What GPA do I need to graduate from Marquette?
The general undergraduate graduation requirement is a 2.000 cumulative GPA, plus a 2.000 GPA in coursework applicable to declared majors and minors unless a program requires more.
Is a 2.0 GPA always enough for financial aid?
Not in every stage. Marquette’s undergraduate SAP policy uses a 1.500 cumulative GPA standard for 1–24 attempted credits and 2.000 at 24+ attempted credits, with additional pace and timing rules.
Does Marquette round GPA?
Marquette states that the official GPA calculated by its student information system is not rounded up or down. Use the official CheckMarq value when an exact institutional GPA matters.
Can graduate students use this calculator?
Not for an official graduate estimate. Graduate grading, graduation standards and repeat treatment differ from the undergraduate profile used here.
