How Baylor calculates GPA
Baylor uses a credit-weighted 4.0 scale. Multiply each GPA-bearing course’s semester hours by its grade-point value, add the grade points, then divide by the total GPA-bearing hours.

Important: Baylor truncates GPA after the second decimal instead of rounding. A raw result of 3.335 is therefore 3.33 under Baylor’s published calculation method, not 3.34.
Worked example
Suppose you take two 3-hour courses and earn an A and a B-. The A contributes 12.00 grade points and the B- contributes 8.01, for 20.01 total points across 6 GPA hours. The untruncated result is 3.335, so Baylor’s official method reports 3.33.
Which Baylor grades count in GPA?
Standard letter grades A through F count in GPA. An F contributes zero grade points, so its semester hours still lower the average.

Baylor does not impose one university-wide percentage cutoff for each letter grade. Instructors, courses, and schools may use different percentage-to-letter standards, so enter the final letter grade that appears on your record rather than converting a percentage yourself.
Repeated courses and Academic Forgiveness
Repeating a Baylor course does not automatically replace the first grade. Under the ordinary undergraduate repeat rule, Baylor grades remain in the term and cumulative GPA unless an Academic Forgiveness exclusion is actually approved.
Undergraduate Academic Forgiveness can allow the first earned grade in a repeated course to be excluded when that original grade was C- or below. It is limited to three courses during the undergraduate career, requires a student request, and is irreversible once applied. If a course is attempted a third time and forgiveness is used, the first grade may be excluded while the later grades continue to count.
Calculator limitation: Repeat Impact is intentionally disabled for Baylor because a simple automatic replacement would be misleading. If your transcript shows an original grade as excluded under Academic Forgiveness, leave that excluded attempt out of the GPA calculation. Otherwise, include every Baylor attempt that counts in GPA.
A W can count toward Baylor’s maximum number of course attempts even though W itself does not enter GPA. Course-repeat eligibility and Academic Forgiveness eligibility are related but not identical, so use Baylor’s Registrar process for an official decision.
Do transfer grades count in Baylor GPA?
Accepted transfer credit can apply toward a Baylor degree, but the external grade does not become part of the Baylor institutional GPA. In the calculator, use the transfer-course type when you want to record the course without adding its grade points or hours to the Baylor GPA estimate.
A Baylor course that has already been attempted generally cannot simply be retaken elsewhere and transferred back as a way to change Baylor grade-point status. Check the Registrar’s current repeat and transfer rules before planning a repeat at another institution.
Baylor GPA targets and academic thresholds
The target tool estimates the average you would need over a chosen number of future Baylor GPA hours. It is a planning calculation, not an official determination of standing, graduation, admission, aid, or program eligibility.
For undergraduate academic notice, Baylor’s current catalog uses a 2.0 threshold: a term and/or cumulative GPA below 2.0 can trigger academic notice. Dean’s List is a different measure; undergraduate students generally need at least a 3.70 semester GPA, no grade below C, and at least 12 graded semester hours.
Program and admissions requirements can use different GPAs and thresholds. Baylor states that general freshman admission is holistic without a universal minimum GPA, while selected majors and transfer pathways publish their own requirements. Always match a GPA number to the specific policy and student population it governs.
Graduate and Baylor Law GPAs
The standard grade-point scale is broadly used at Baylor, but this calculator profile is built for the undergraduate institutional GPA and its repeat/forgiveness rules. Graduate programs have separate continuation and repeat requirements, including a Graduate School probation standard tied to a 3.0 overall GPA.
Baylor Law is also a separate academic context. Law students should use the Law School’s own academic rules and records rather than treating this undergraduate calculator as an official Law GPA calculation.

Does Baylor round GPA?
No. Baylor’s published method truncates the GPA after two decimal places. That means extra digits are dropped rather than rounded up.
Is an F included in Baylor GPA?
Yes. An F is worth 0.00 grade points, but its GPA-bearing semester hours still count in the denominator.
Does Baylor have plus and minus grades?
Yes. The standard scale includes A-, B+, B-, C+, C-, D+, and D-. For example, B+ is 3.33 and B- is 2.67.
Does repeating a class replace the old Baylor grade?
