University of Georgia GPA Calculator

Use this University of Georgia GPA calculator to estimate your UGA
cumulative GPA on the university's 4.0 plus/minus scale. Add completed
UGA courses, project future grades, or work backward from a target GPA.
The calculator also handles non-GPA symbols correctly and reflects UGA's
count-all treatment of ordinary undergraduate repeated courses.

How to Use the UGA GPA Calculator

Enter your current UGA cumulative GPA and the credit hours already
included in that GPA if you want a cumulative projection. Then add
completed or planned UGA courses with their semester credit hours and
grades.

The calculator is designed for standard undergraduate UGA residence
coursework. It can estimate your current cumulative GPA, projected GPA
after planned courses, and the average you would need over future credit
hours to reach a target GPA.

Important: UGA distinguishes the cumulative GPA from the overall
GPA. The cumulative GPA uses UGA residence coursework. The overall GPA
also includes college-level transfer work. This calculator’s main
numerical profile estimates the UGA cumulative GPA, so do not enter
transfer courses as ordinary UGA courses.

UGA Grading Scale

Grade Grade points

A 4.0
A- 3.7
B+ 3.3
B 3.0
B- 2.7
C+ 2.3
C 2.0
C- 1.7
D 1.0
F 0.0

UGA does not use A+, C+, D+, or D- as additional values beyond the
grades shown in the official scale. A C- is worth 1.7 grade points, but
UGA notes that it does not satisfy requirements that specifically
require a C (2.0) or better.

Grades and symbols that do not count in GPA

W, I, S, U, V, K, NG, ER, NR, WM, and applicable WP records are excluded
from the GPA calculation while they carry those symbols. An unresolved I
is not initially included, but UGA states that an I not removed after
three semesters changes to F, or to U in an S/U course.

How UGA Calculates GPA

For each letter-graded course, multiply the course’s credit hours by the
grade-point value. Add the grade points, then divide by the credit hours
attempted for letter grade.

GPA = total grade points ÷ GPA-bearing credit hours

For example, a 3-credit A earns 12 grade points and a 3-credit B earns
9. Together, the courses produce 21 grade points over 6 credit hours, or
a 3.50 GPA.

UGA states that official grade point averages are truncated to two
decimal places
. The calculator may show three decimals for planning,
so use your official UGA record when an exact institutional value
matters.

Repeating a Course at UGA

Ordinary undergraduate UGA repeats do not erase the earlier UGA grade
from the cumulative GPA. Each graded UGA attempt remains part of the
cumulative average. Course credit is generally earned only once, even
though the grades remain in GPA calculations.

Because the shared calculator’s Repeat Impact feature is designed for
replacement policies, it is disabled for UGA. Enter each completed
graded attempt as a separate completed course row instead.

Repeat warning: A repeated course can have different consequences
for degree credit, prerequisites, financial aid, admission
calculations, or graduate/professional records. This calculator
estimates the undergraduate UGA cumulative GPA only.

Transfer Courses and the UGA Overall GPA

UGA’s overall GPA is broader than its UGA cumulative GPA because it
includes grades and hours from other postsecondary institutions.
Transfer-credit acceptance and the way an outside grade appears on the
official UGA record are separate questions.

For that reason, external transfer courses are routed to manual review
in this calculator rather than being silently treated like UGA residence
courses. Use Athena and DegreeWorks to confirm how transfer credit was
evaluated.

Transfer admission uses another calculation. UGA Admissions currently
requires at least a 3.30 calculated transfer GPA for Athens applicants
with 30–59 completed transferable hours and at least a 3.00 for
applicants with 60 or more transferable hours. Meeting those
consideration levels does not guarantee admission.

GPA Requirements Students Often Confuse

UGA uses different GPA definitions for different purposes. Keep the
following separate:

Purpose Current published standard

Undergraduate graduation At least 2.00 UGA cumulative GPA

Undergraduate financial-aid SAP At least 2.00 overall GPA, plus
pace and timeframe rules

Cum laude 3.60–3.74 overall GPA

Magna cum laude 3.75–3.89 overall GPA

Summa cum laude 3.90–4.00 overall GPA

First Honor Graduate 4.00 overall GPA

General graduate good standing / 3.00 graduate GPA, subject to
graduation Graduate School rules

These standards do not mean that every major, scholarship, professional
program, or admission process uses the same GPA.

Graduate and Professional Students

Graduate records should not be calculated with the undergraduate repeat
rule without checking the Graduate School policy. UGA’s Graduate School
requires a 3.0 graduate GPA for general good standing and graduation,
and its repeat policy uses the last grade received in a repeated
graduate course for the graduate average used for probation, dismissal,
candidacy, and graduation.

Professional programs can have their own standards. Law, veterinary
medicine, pharmacy, and other programs should be checked against their
current program rules rather than inferred from the undergraduate
calculator.

UGA GPA FAQs

Does UGA use plus and minus grades?

Yes. UGA’s standard scale includes A-, B+, B-, C+, and C-. Their
grade-point values range from 3.7 for A- to 1.7 for C-.

Does an F count in my UGA GPA?

Yes. An F contributes 0 grade points but its letter-graded attempted
credit hours remain in the GPA denominator.

Does a W lower my UGA GPA?

No. A W is excluded from the GPA calculation.

Does an Incomplete count in GPA?

Not while it remains an I. UGA states that an I not satisfactorily
removed after three semesters converts to F, or U for an S/U course.

If I repeat a class, does the new grade replace the old grade?

Not for the ordinary undergraduate UGA cumulative GPA. Both UGA grades
remain in the cumulative average, so enter both graded attempts
separately.

Do transfer grades count in my UGA GPA?

They do not belong in the UGA residence-only cumulative GPA, but UGA’s
separate overall GPA includes grades and hours from other postsecondary
institutions. Check your official record for the exact transfer
treatment.

What GPA do I need to graduate from UGA?

UGA requires a minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA for undergraduate graduation,
although individual degree requirements can impose additional course or
program standards.

What GPA is needed for UGA graduation honors?

Current university honors use the overall GPA: 3.60–3.74 for cum laude,
3.75–3.89 for magna cum laude, and 3.90–4.00 for summa cum laude. A
4.00 overall GPA qualifies for First Honor Graduate designation.

Does UGA have a minimum first-year admission GPA?

UGA says it sets no rigid high-school GPA standard for first-year
admission. Admissions recalculates applicants’ academic GPA using core
academic coursework and evaluates the application competitively.
