How UF calculates your GPA
UF calculates GPA by multiplying each grade’s point value by the course’s semester credits, adding the grade points, and dividing by the semester credits that count in the GPA. The university displays GPA to the hundredths place and does not round up: a calculated 3.248 is displayed as 3.24.
| Grade | UF grade points |
|---|---|
| A | 4.00 |
| A- | 3.67 |
| B+ | 3.33 |
| B | 3.00 |
| B- | 2.67 |
| C+ | 2.33 |
| C | 2.00 |
| C- | 1.67 |
| D+ | 1.33 |
| D | 1.00 |
| D- | 0.67 |
| E | 0.00 |
Important: The calculator shows three decimals for planning. Your official UF display uses hundredths without rounding up, so the number shown in ONE.UF can look slightly different.
Worked example
A 3-credit A- earns 11.01 grade points. A 3-credit B+ earns 9.99. Together, those courses produce 21.00 grade points across 6 GPA credits, for a 3.50 GPA.
Which UF grades count in GPA?
E is a zero-point failing grade, so its credits remain in the GPA denominator. Older WF grades are also punitive at zero points. UF distinguishes punitive I and NG grades from initial non-punitive I* and N* grades; an unresolved initial I* or N* can later convert under the university’s timing rules.
S and U grades under the S/U option do not carry grade-point values and are not computed in the UF GPA. W is also excluded. H is a deferred grade and requires care because it can later become punitive under UF rules.
Do transfer grades count in the UF GPA?
No. Grades earned at other institutions are not averaged into the University of Florida GPA used for university GPA requirements. Accepted transfer credit can still matter for degree progress, prerequisites, excess hours, and financial-aid pace, but that is separate from the UF institutional GPA.
Calculator limitation: Use the transfer/external course type only to document excluded work. Do not convert an outside grade into a UF grade unless UF has actually posted a UF grade for that course or program.
What happens when you repeat a course at UF?
UF does not have grade forgiveness. Current undergraduate policy says repeated UF coursework is counted in the UF GPA as many times as grades are recorded, while course credit is generally awarded once. If you already earned a C or higher, you normally cannot repeat the course without an approved college petition.
Because repeat eligibility and transfer-repeat combinations depend on the record, the calculator’s Repeat Impact estimator is disabled. When multiple UF attempts actually count on your record, enter those counted attempts as separate completed rows and confirm unusual cases with your college or the Registrar.
Projected GPA and target GPA
For a projected GPA, enter the grades you expect in planned courses. The calculator combines those planned grade points with your current UF GPA-bearing record.
For a target GPA, enter the GPA you want and the number of future GPA credits you expect to complete. The calculator estimates the average grade points per credit you would need. If the required average is above 4.0, that target cannot be reached within the number of credits entered using standard UF undergraduate grades.
Academic standing, graduation, and financial aid
A 2.0 UF GPA is an important university-wide undergraduate benchmark, but it serves different purposes under different policies. UF requires at least a 2.0 GPA for an undergraduate degree, and colleges or majors may impose additional standards. Academic probation and dismissal use UF’s academic-progress rules, including the university’s dismissal thresholds.
Federal and institutional financial-aid SAP is a separate review. UF’s current SAP policy requires most undergraduates to maintain a cumulative 2.0 UF GPA and complete at least 67% of attempted hours. Do not use the calculator alone to decide aid eligibility because pace, maximum timeframe, transfer hours, repeats, and other attempted credits also matter.
Undergraduate vs. graduate UF GPA
This calculator profile is for the current undergraduate UF institutional GPA. Graduate students have separate Graduate School rules, including a 3.00 truncated GPA standard in major and overall degree-eligible work for graduation, with program-specific requirements possible. Professional programs can also use their own progression and GPA rules.
Frequently asked questions
Does UF round GPA?
UF displays GPA to the hundredths place without rounding up. For example, the current catalog says 3.248 displays as 3.24.
Does UF have grade forgiveness?
No. UF states that it does not practice grade forgiveness. Repeating a course does not simply erase the earlier grade.
Does an E count in my UF GPA?
Yes. E is worth 0.00 grade points, and its GPA credits count in the calculation.
Do S/U classes affect my UF GPA?
No. Grades earned under the S/U option do not carry grade-point values and are not computed in the UF GPA, although S can still award degree credit.
Do transfer grades change my UF GPA?
No. Grades from other institutions are not averaged into the UF GPA. Transfer credits can still affect other academic requirements.
What GPA do I need to graduate from UF?
UF requires a minimum 2.0 GPA for an undergraduate degree, but your college, major, or program can require more.
What GPA is required for UF financial aid SAP?
The current UF SAP policy requires undergraduate students to maintain a cumulative 2.0 UF GPA, along with the applicable completion-rate and maximum-timeframe requirements.
Is the UF transfer admission GPA the same as my UF GPA after enrollment?
No. Transfer admission uses an admissions calculation based on prior college work. UF currently lists a minimum 2.0 overall GPA and 2.0 GPA at the last institution attended, plus major-specific requirements; those external grades are not later averaged into your UF institutional GPA.
