How to use the Texas A&M GPA calculator

A grade of S can earn credit without entering the GPA. An undergraduate U affects GPA like an F: the attempted hours stay in the denominator and the course contributes zero grade points.
How Texas A&M calculates GPA
Texas A&M divides total grade points by attempted hours that carry GPA grades. Do not average semester GPAs together; cumulative GPA is based on the combined grade points and attempted GPA hours.
For example, a 3-hour A earns 12 grade points and a 4-hour B earns 12. The combined GPA is 24 ÷ 7 = 3.429.
Quick answer: F and undergraduate U grades can lower GPA because their hours count even though they add zero grade points. S, W, Q, I, NG, and X do not enter the standard GPA calculation.
Repeated courses at Texas A&M
Texas A&M does not use ordinary grade replacement for undergraduate repeats. The original grade stays on the record, and both grades normally enter the GPA. Credit for a repeated course can generally be used only once toward degree requirements.
There is an important exception: if you repeat a Texas A&M course after earning a B or better, the catalog says you will not receive grade points for the repeated course unless the course is designated repeatable for credit. Because that rule does not fit a simple count-all repeat calculation, the calculator’s Repeat Impact tool is disabled. Do transfer grades count in the Texas A&M GPA?

Undergraduate vs. graduate GPA
Graduate students should not use the undergraduate U-grade rule. Texas A&M states that U is excluded from the graduate GPA, and official graduate calculations also depend on graduate and degree-plan coursework. Graduate students generally have separate cumulative/program and degree-plan GPA requirements, so this undergraduate profile is not a substitute for a graduate degree evaluation.
