Marquette GPA Calculator

GPA Calculation at Marquette University

📘 How GPA Is Calculated

Marquette calculates GPA by dividing the total number of grade points earned by the total number of semester hours credited in courses where grade points are assigned. Each letter grade corresponds to a specific grade point value, which is multiplied by the course’s credit hours to determine the total grade points for that course. The cumulative GPA is the sum of these grade points divided by the total credit hours. It’s important to note that transfer credits do not factor into the Marquette GPA, and the official GPA is not rounded up or down.

Departmental and Program-Specific GPA Policies

College of Business Administration

Undergraduate business students must earn a grade of C or higher in each major requirement and elective course, including core courses introducing the major. For example, marketing majors must achieve at least a C in MARK 3001 and all 4000-level marketing requirements and electives.

Graduate School Academic Standards

Graduate students are expected to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.000. Students who have attempted more than 9 credit hours and fall below this threshold may be subject to academic dismissal. Those with a GPA between 2.500 and 3.000 after 9 credit hours may be placed on academic probation and are required to submit an academic plan to return to good standing.

Latin Honors for Undergraduates

Marquette University awards Latin honors to undergraduate students based on their cumulative GPA:

  • Cum Laude: 3.500–3.699
  • Magna Cum Laude: 3.700–3.899
  • Summa Cum Laude: 3.900–4.000

To be eligible, students must be pursuing their first bachelor’s degree and have earned at least 60 grade point hours and 60 degree hours at Marquette.
