TCU GPA Calculator

Use this TCU GPA calculator to estimate your Texas Christian University undergraduate semester or cumulative GPA on TCU's 4.0 plus/minus scale. It supports current and planned coursework, target-GPA planning, P/NC exclusions, and TCU's repeat rule in which the last letter grade from a TCU repeat is used in the GPA.

TCU GPA Scale

TCU uses credit hours to weight undergraduate grades. Multiply each course’s credit hours by its grade-point value, add the grade points, and divide by the GPA-bearing TCU credit hours.

GradePointsGradePoints
A4.00C2.00
A-3.67C-1.67
B+3.33D+1.33
B3.00D1.00
B-2.67D-0.67
C+2.33F0.00

Important: This calculator is for the standard undergraduate TCU GPA. TCU publishes a different graduate grade set, so graduate and professional students should use the rules for their own program.

What Counts in Your TCU GPA?

Regular undergraduate letter-graded TCU courses count. A failing F contributes zero grade points but its GPA-bearing credit hours remain in the denominator.

P and NC courses do not enter the GPA calculation. Incomplete and withdrawal-type designators should not be treated as ordinary letter grades while they remain unresolved or non-GPA marks. External transfer grades also should not be mixed into your enrolled-student TCU GPA.

How to Calculate TCU GPA

For each GPA-bearing course:

course grade points = credit hours × grade value

Then:

GPA = total grade points ÷ total GPA-bearing credit hours

For example, a 3-credit A earns 12.00 grade points and a 3-credit B+ earns 9.99. Together, 21.99 divided by 6 gives a 3.665 planning GPA.

How Repeated Courses Affect TCU GPA

When a course taken at TCU is repeated at TCU, the last letter grade is the grade used in the GPA, although all grades remain on the transcript. That means a repeat can raise or lower your GPA. TCU also says students are responsible for notifying the Registrar when a course is repeated.

Calculator limitation: The Repeat Impact tool is a planning estimate for a straightforward two-attempt, same-credit TCU repeat. For changed credit hours, equivalent courses, or more complicated repeat histories, confirm the treatment with the Registrar.

Transfer Grades and TCU GPA

Do not combine TCU’s enrolled-student GPA with its transfer-admission GPA. TCU Admissions calculates a separate transfer GPA for admission and can consider grades that do not transfer for degree credit. Once you are calculating the institutional TCU GPA, use the TCU coursework and rules shown on your TCU academic record.

GPA Requirements Are Purpose-Specific

A GPA number can mean different things under different TCU policies. TCU currently states that first-year applicants have no minimum GPA for consideration, while transfer applicants generally need a 2.7 or higher transfer GPA, with some majors requiring more. Undergraduate financial-aid SAP uses a 2.0 cumulative TCU GPA minimum together with other progress requirements.

Do not use the calculator alone to decide admission, financial-aid eligibility, scholarship renewal, major progression, or graduation status.

TCU GPA FAQs

Does TCU use a 4.0 GPA scale?

Yes. The standard undergraduate scale tops out at A = 4.00 and includes plus/minus grades through D- = 0.67.

Does TCU have an A+ grade worth more than 4.0?

The published undergraduate grade-point table starts at A = 4.00; it does not list an A+ grade above 4.0.

Do P/NC courses affect TCU GPA?

No. TCU states that P/NC courses are not counted in computing GPA.

What happens if I repeat a class at TCU?

For a TCU course repeated at TCU, only the last letter grade is used in the GPA, while all grades remain on the transcript.

Does the higher repeat grade always count?

No. TCU’s rule is based on the last letter grade, not the better grade, so a lower repeat grade can reduce the GPA.

Do transfer grades count in my TCU GPA?

External transfer grades should not be added to the enrolled-student TCU GPA. Transfer Admissions uses a separate transfer-GPA calculation for admission decisions.

What GPA do I need to transfer to TCU?

TCU currently lists a transfer GPA of 2.7 or higher as an academic requirement, while noting that some majors require a higher GPA.

What GPA is required for TCU financial-aid SAP?

The undergraduate SAP policy uses a 2.0 cumulative GPA minimum along with separate completion-rate and maximum-time requirements.
