Uni of Kentucky GPA Calculator

Use this University of Kentucky GPA calculator for standard undergraduate courses on UK’s 4.0 scale: A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, and F/E=0. It can estimate your current or cumulative GPA, project planned coursework, and calculate the average needed for a target GPA while correctly excluding Pass/Fail and transfer grades from the UK GPA.

How to Use the University of Kentucky GPA Calculator

Enter your previous UK GPA and quality hours if you want a cumulative estimate, then add each completed course with its credit hours and final grade. Add future courses under planned coursework to see a projected GPA. You can also enter a target GPA and future credit hours to estimate the average grade points you would need.

Calculator limitation: The calculator supports UK’s standard undergraduate grading system. Law, graduate and professional programs, plus any course using an approved alternate grading system, can follow different rules and should be checked against that program’s official record.

University of Kentucky GPA Scale

For the standard grading system, UK assigns quality points by credit hour.

GradeGrade points per credit hourGPA treatment
A4.0Counts
B3.0Counts
C2.0Counts
D1.0Counts for standard undergraduate work
F0.0Counts as a zero-point failure on the standard letter-grade track
E0.0Zero-point failure notation; UK says E will stop being issued beginning Fall 2027
P—Excluded from GPA
F on Pass/Fail track—Excluded from GPA
I, W, AU and other non-GPA/temporary marks—Excluded until or unless replaced by a GPA-bearing final grade

UK’s standard current policy does not use plus/minus grades as the general undergraduate scale. The Registrar notes that plus/minus grading has applied in specific historical or program circumstances, so students with those grades should use the rules for that particular academic record rather than converting them into the standard scale.

How UK Calculates GPA

UK GPA is based on quality points divided by quality hours. For a GPA-bearing course, multiply the course credit hours by the grade-point value, add the quality points from all counted courses, and divide by the total counted quality hours.

Example: A 3-credit A earns 12 quality points, while a 3-credit B earns 9. Together, those courses produce 21 quality points across 6 quality hours, for a 3.500 GPA.

If you already have an official cumulative GPA, the most reliable starting point is the Q HRS and Q PTS information in myUK because those values reflect UK’s processed academic record.

Pass/Fail, Incomplete, Withdrawal and Transfer Grades

A P earned on the Pass/Fail track can carry credit toward graduation when applicable, but it is not included in GPA. An F on the Pass/Fail track is also excluded from GPA under the current grading policy. That is different from a regular letter-grade F, which is a zero-point failure in the standard GPA system.

Incomplete and temporary grades do not become ordinary GPA-bearing grades until they are resolved. A W is also excluded from GPA. Approved transfer coursework can count toward degree requirements, but UK does not include transfer grades in the UK institutional GPA.

Repeating a Course at UK

Important 2026 change: UK’s current grading policy, effective August 23, 2026, changed the undergraduate repeat option. When an eligible student exercises the option, the highest grade among completed attempts is used for the cumulative GPA and applicable degree requirements. The policy allows the rule for up to four distinct courses, while all attempts remain visible on the transcript.

The calculator does not automate this repeat adjustment because the rule can involve more than two attempts, eligibility limits, academic-integrity grades, prior degrees and registration restrictions. After UK processes a repeat option, use your updated official Q HRS/Q PTS or cumulative GPA as the calculator baseline.

Transfer Courses and Your UK GPA

Transfer grades are considered in the admission process, but they do not become part of the UK GPA. After you enroll, your UK GPA is established from UK coursework. A transferred course may still satisfy degree requirements even though its external grade is excluded from the institutional GPA.

GPA Requirements to Keep Separate

A calculator result is not itself a decision about standing, aid, admission or graduation. For undergraduate financial-aid SAP, UK currently requires at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA in addition to separate pace and maximum-timeframe rules. Transfer admission also generally uses a 2.0 cumulative GPA, but selective programs may require more.

College, major, scholarship and professional-program standards can be different. Use the requirement that applies to your specific program and purpose rather than assuming every UK GPA threshold is the same.

University of Kentucky GPA FAQs

Does UK use a 4.0 GPA scale?

Yes. The standard system uses A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, and F/E=0 quality points per credit hour.

Does UK use plus and minus grades?

Not as the general standard scale under the current universitywide grading policy. Plus/minus grades have existed in specific program or historical contexts, so use the grading rules tied to the record where the grade was earned.

Does a Pass/Fail course affect my UK GPA?

No. Neither P nor F on the Pass/Fail grading track is used in calculating GPA under the current policy.

Does a regular F count in my UK GPA?

Yes. A regular F is a zero-point grade in the standard letter-grade system, so it lowers GPA when attached to GPA-bearing quality hours.

Do transfer grades count in the University of Kentucky GPA?

No. UK states that transfer grades do not enter the UK GPA, even though transfer coursework and grades can matter for admission and degree requirements.

How does the UK repeat option affect GPA now?

For eligible undergraduate repeats under the policy effective August 23, 2026, the highest completed grade is used after the repeat option is exercised, subject to the policy’s limits and exceptions. Lower attempts remain visible on the transcript.

How many courses can use the undergraduate repeat option?

The current 2026 policy allows the grade-replacement rule for up to four distinct courses. Because older UK pages may still describe the prior rule, use the current Provost grading policy when planning a new repeat.

What GPA is required for undergraduate financial aid SAP?

The current undergraduate SAP policy requires at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA, plus separate completion-pace and maximum-timeframe requirements.
