How to use the Georgia Tech GPA calculator
Enter your previous Georgia Tech GPA and the credit hours behind it if you already have a cumulative record. Then add completed courses with their credit hours and final grades. You can add planned courses to see a projected GPA or use the target tool to estimate the average you would need over future Georgia Tech credit hours.
Important: Georgia Tech officially truncates GPA after two decimal places. The calculator shows three decimals for planning, so use your official transcript for the GPA Georgia Tech reports.
This profile is designed for the undergraduate Georgia Tech institutional GPA. Graduate students use the same A–F point values, but graduate standing and grade-substitution rules differ, so graduate records should be reviewed separately.
Georgia Tech GPA scale
Georgia Tech uses a standard 4.0 letter-grade scale with no plus/minus grade points in the institutional GPA.

An F contributes zero quality points but still affects the GPA denominator. That is different from an excluded grade such as S, U, W, or I, which contributes neither GPA points nor GPA hours.
How Georgia Tech calculates GPA
Georgia Tech multiplies each GPA-bearing course’s credit hours by the grade’s quality-point value, adds the quality points, and divides by the GPA-attempted credit hours.
GPA = total quality points ÷ total GPA-attempted credit hours
For example, a 3-credit A earns 12 quality points and a 4-credit B earns 12. The total is 24 quality points over 7 GPA hours, or 3.428571…. Georgia Tech truncates the official GPA after two decimal places, so this example is reported as 3.42, not 3.43.
Repeated courses and grade substitution
A repeated course does not automatically replace the earlier grade at Georgia Tech. Under the general repeat rule, both the original and later grades are included in the academic average. If no grade substitution has been approved and processed, enter both attempts as separate completed courses.
Georgia Tech’s undergraduate grade-substitution policy can exclude the original grade from cumulative GPA in a limited set of cases. The current policy allows eligible undergraduates to use substitution for up to two Georgia Tech courses with original grades of D or F. A course may use substitution only once, must generally be repeated within one calendar year, and has filing and academic-misconduct restrictions.
Calculator limitation: Repeat Impact estimates the GPA effect if an undergraduate grade substitution is approved and processed. It cannot determine whether you are eligible, whether you have already used the two-course limit, whether a misconduct restriction applies, or whether you met the Registrar’s deadline.
Do transfer grades count in the Georgia Tech GPA?
No. Georgia Tech may award acceptable transfer or transient credit, but grades earned at another institution are not calculated into the Georgia Tech institutional GPA. In the calculator, choose the transfer/transient course type when you want to record that work without adding its external grade to the GT GPA.
Transfer hours can still matter for degree progress and financial-aid pace, so “excluded from Georgia Tech GPA” does not mean the credit is irrelevant to every academic rule.
Academic standing and graduation GPA
Georgia Tech keeps several GPA thresholds separate. For undergraduate academic standing, the minimum satisfactory GPA is 2.00. Master’s and special graduate students use 2.70, while doctoral students use 3.00.
A bachelor’s degree candidate must have an overall academic-program GPA of at least 2.00, along with the other degree requirements. These are institutional academic rules, not target recommendations generated by the calculator.

Financial-aid satisfactory academic progress
Georgia Tech’s financial-aid SAP policy uses more than GPA. The current qualitative minimum is a 2.00 cumulative GPA for undergraduates and 3.00 for graduate students. Students must also complete at least 67% of cumulative attempted hours and remain within the applicable maximum timeframe.
Transfer, transient, repeated, withdrawn, and incomplete coursework can affect SAP pace differently from the institutional GPA. A GPA calculator cannot determine full financial-aid eligibility by itself.
Georgia Tech admission GPA is different
The GPA Georgia Tech uses to review an applicant is not the same as the institutional GPA earned after enrollment. For first-year applicants, Undergraduate Admission generally uses the GPA reported by the high school when available and may recalculate a weighted core GPA in specified cases.
For regular transfer admission, current minimums are 3.3 for College of Computing and College of Engineering applicants and 3.0 for applicants to the other listed colleges. Some transfer pathways publish different GPA and grade conditions. These admission calculations should not be entered as though they were a Georgia Tech cumulative GPA.

Does Georgia Tech use plus and minus grades in GPA?
Georgia Tech’s institutional GPA table uses A, B, C, D, and F at 4, 3, 2, 1, and 0 quality points per credit hour. The standard institutional GPA scale does not assign separate A-, B+, or similar point values.
Does an F count in my Georgia Tech GPA?
Yes. An F earns zero quality points, but its attempted credit hours remain in the GPA calculation unless an approved grade substitution later removes the eligible original attempt.
Do S/U grades count in GPA?
No. S and U are excluded from Georgia Tech’s GPA calculation.
Does a W lower my Georgia Tech GPA?
