Courses with letter grades A–E/EUCR (Credit)
NC (No Credit)

I (Incomplete)
V (Audit)

How Course Units Affect GPA at University of Utah

Each course’s credit hours are weighted equally per unit. Courses with more credit hours have a greater impact on GPA because their grade points are multiplied by a larger unit value.

How GPA Is Calculated

GPA is calculated using the following formula:

Total grade points ÷ Total graded credit hours

Example:

  • 3 credits × 4.0 = 12.0

Total: 31.2 grade points ÷ 10 credits = 3.12 GPA
