"PerfectWell, Does a perfect GPA guarantee success? Huh? So many universal statements! Perfect is impossible! Guarantees, especially in life, are improbable at best. Some may try for perfection, and that’s not bad. But to aim at something that you are not sure to gain, seems more like a form of personal torture than proper motivation.

Success is important and a good GPA, even the best possible GPA (a perfect one) is awesome. But to say, dogmatically, that a “Perfect GPA guarantees Success” would be too broad a generalization that is more likely to encourage rebellion than motivation. As a student success is measured by your overall performance and your ability to regurgitate what you have learned to prove that you have learned it. Your GPA is one way of measuring your success as a student, but not the only way.

There are many successful students, in school and in life, that do not have a perfect GPA. There are probably as many students who boast perfect GPAs that are not successful students or successful in life. Many of us have areas that we are better at than other areas. And we all have things that come a little harder. If as a student, we can focus on doing the best at what we can, and striving to be better at what comes arduously, it would help us to be successful students.

Successful students learn. That’s not to say that they learn according to a strict measure or standard, but they learn. Learning in your own way, at your own pace makes you a success. And as you learn to apply the motivation that it takes to be a good and successful student, it will develop thinking and habits that will make us successful workers and members of society. So as you step out of school and into life, your successes, whether a good GPA or one that’s not-so-good, -your successes- will catapult you into life and give you an advantage that will last you a lifetime.

Just looking back in history, there were plenty of students who were not successful as the measure of good students goes. But they became amazing successes in life. The most popular are Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison. Both of these men were terrible students. But their desire to learn and their motivation to get it right, made them some of the most successful students in life and in sciences.

Their example does not give you permission to be rebels and trouble makers, but it does open the door to a broader way of looking at students and their abilities to succeed and the common or accepted way of measuring that success.

A perfect GPA doesn’t guarantee you to be a successful student. But being a successful student will equip you to be a success in life. And in life, it will be your measures of success that will matter. Not a board. Not a teacher. Not a boss.Â
